Karnataka has been a sacred land of Guru–Virakta Mathas that have played a pivotal role in shaping spiritual and cultural values. Murusaviramath is one such historic institution.
Originally established as a Virakta Matha at Hosur village (Savadatti taluk) by Poojya Shri Neelakantha Mahaswamiji, the Matha was later shifted to Bailhongal and established at billur Galli. Initially known as Tippimatha, it later became popular as Murusaviramath.
Through Annadasoha (free food), Jnana Dasoha (education), spiritual discourses, and social reform activities, the Matha transformed Bailhongal into a center of learning and harmony, often referred to as Vidya Kashi.
